Do not remember the former things, nor consider the things of old. Behold,
| will do a new thing…..Isaiah 43:18-19.
Forgiving Lord, the healer of hurting memories, | am deeply concerned about
the way | carry the burden of troublesome memories from year to year. Repeatedly
| dredge up from the past unforgiving hurts and unfulfilled hopes. | have a sharp,
memory for my failures. Just thinking about them brings back all the pain. Also, the
memories of what people have done or said to cause me anguish lurk and stalk about the
corridors of the ever present past.
You have promised to liberate my memories of the syndrome of repetitive reflection on
distressing memories. A New Year is at hand. Will | carry into the future the same old
unresolved, unforgiving, and unhealed memories?
In this guiet time, | realise how urgently | want to have a good memory of Your faithfulness
and a poor memory about the sins You have already forgiven. Liberate me so | need not
remember regretfully what You have forgotten. Help me to list out on a piece of paper
the memories that hinder my progress, and then tear up the list and claim the healing
of Your Spirit. Its really exciting to think about a New Year that’s truly new, because right
now Your healing power is moving through my memory, sorting out what | dare not forget
about Your goodness and what | dare not keep if | want to be whole.
